First we got Cola. Cola is a lunatic, seriously. She is extremely hyper and doesn’t seem to be able to stop herself from trying stuff that is dangerous for her, you know, like taking a dive from on top of their 160 cm high cage… Completely nuts I tell you all. She loves to climb on me and Lev and everything else she can find.
Second is Pepsi, she a pretty shy degu and when she gets the guts to get out of their cage when it’s playpen time she runs around really fast so that no one will ever be able to catch her Curiosity takes over sometimes and she can come up and smell you if she feels like it.
Then we got RC and Mingla, but that’s 2 different stories as well.
I’ve finally cleaned up on the balcony and moved all the cages where they’re supposed to be so I figured I could snap a pic and tell a story Haha.
This is the cage, our degus new home. It’s a bird cage from Ferplast and we bought it second hand through an ad on Blocket. The cage is in great condition, you can barely tell that it’s used and the degus are loving it, 160 cm tall, 70 cm wide and 60 cm deep, perfect for degus who like to climb. For 500 kr we got this cage, Mingla (the degu, our fourth), a transportation cage (same condition as the cage, great) and all the stuff in the cage which included like 3 water bottles, 4 food bowls, houses and stuff for them to climb. I don’t think I need to mention how great of a deal that was… Or maybe it’s just me that knows what those things costs after spending 3 months in a pet store
We’re still keeping the old cage since you can’t really have to many cages if you love animals as much as I/we do I’ve been cleaning it out real good and once it’s dry I’m gonna move it out on the balcony as our storage room is full of crap.
Storage room… Man, does that place give me a headache, me and Lev seems to have some issues with throwing things away so it’s full with worthless crap that needs to be thrown out instead of collecting dust. But yeah, I decided to deal with it this upcoming weekend most likely when I’ll have access to a bigger car, gonna drive it to the dump and finally throw it out.
Well, back to cleaning, organizing and thinking of what to wish for xmas.
Today we picked up our new degu Mingla and so far everything seems to go very well with introducing her to the others. No fighting yet, just some “who are you?” chirping and a cocky Cola, but nothing bigger than that. That’s a relief.
Yesterday wasn’t a good day… I woke up with a headache that later on got worse then I’ve experienced in a really long time. I was sent home from the store cause I was all shaky, dizzy and was close to throwing up cause of the pain. I drove home and barely remembered how that happened (safe, huh?) and then just collapsed in bed.
But, today is a new day and I’m up and about, it’s Friday and I’m a good mood so hopefully nothing can go wrong today. I’m not gonna be home until 6:30 pm today but that’s all ok, when I come home I’m usually greated with good food and today maybe even a movie (Stargate on Blu-Ray perhaps?)
Btw, I don’t think I posted this pic of our precious degu, Cola, on here so I think I’ll share it with ya all today. It’s an old pic, from 2007 but she’s still just as pretty (and loony)
I dunno what’s up with out pets this morning but they’re friggin crazy. The degus are fighting over the water bottles, even tho there’s two of them, all of the sudden all three of them had to drink and of course they all wanna drink from the same bottle. I think I need to buy a third bottle today at least so I don’t need to tell them to stop fighting.
Then there’s the bunny, it’s only 6:30 am and I have already found him on places he’s not supposed to be twice today, first he was on his up on the big table (with plants on it) out there and just a minute ago I saw that he had made it up on the coffee table and was eating on the very nice thyme plant (which doesn’t look so nice anymore)
My pets are crazy, I think they got it from Lev, or maybe from me
Just finished cleaning the degus cage, and as treat for them being so good while they’re were in the backup/second cage I gave them hazelnuts.
Pepsi and RC is way to passive cause Cola takes over all the hazelnuts and then she hides them for the future! No sharing there…
One of them is making angry noises now, my guess that it’s RC that got a hold something good. Whenever she gets something she puts herself in a corner and squeaks whenever Pepsi or Cola gets close to her, or even look her way. Angry little fellow when it comes to her favorite food.
My sweethearts had managed to make quite a mess out of basically everything in their cage so I figured that it was time for a cleaning.
Cleaning a degu cage can sometime be a bit rough, as you can’t just grab a degu and put them somewhere else meantime. You gotta be careful as they don’t like it all when they’re being handled in a very non soft way at all.
I did manage to get all of my three little cuties out calmly and put them in their spare cage, a cage that I only use to keep them all in when I’m cleaning their “normal” cage. I spent some extra time on Pepsi and RC once they were outside of the cage sitting on my palms, trying to make them realize that I’m not hurting them, it seems to be working as it gets easier every time. There is usually never any problems with Cola, that little bugger loves attention and is willing to come out at any time. They also got a treat while they were in the spare cage, some pieces of crisp bread (as long as they don’t get food like that too often and it not containing way to much salt it’s ok)
Anyways, I washed the cage, food bowls, water bottles and removed all spare dust from cage with the vacuum cleaner, put all their stuff in and filled their bowls up with new food. They also got hay refilled and new chinchilla sand in their jar.
It’s fun to let them back in, they get so happy over the new things in there and always runs to the big jar to take a bath (degus and chinchillas takes bath in sand)
I went to the pet store yesterday but they didn’t have one of the things I was looking for so sometime soon I gotta visit another pet store, the degus love fruit shaped and flavored chewing blocks that you attach on the cage and I wanted to give them a new one. Was also thinking of some new kind of “degu-friendly” toy for them too, we’ll see what I’ll find as degus aren’t that common, most stores only seems to have things for hamsters and guinea pigs.
So yeah, I attached a pic that I took of them 5 minutes ago, sorry for the blurriness but try telling three degus to be still at them same time Haha, it’s not happening, I can tell you that.
Here’s some videos of our degus! I cleaned their cage today with the help of Lev (big cage and not to easy to keep track of all three degus) and decided to make some videos for you all once we were done.
First off we have Cola, this is the craziest degu, hehe. Well, she’s been around for the longest and are therefor the one that is the least shy, every day during feeding she always comes up to the “door” of the cage and I either give her a piece or let her pick one from the bowl before I put it in
Next is Pepsi. Pepsi is along with RC our “new” degus as they came to live with us in November. She has lately become more trusting in us both (me and Lev) and is showing a lot of interest when we are close to the cage, she is taking after Cola a lot. She like to do a similar procedure as Cola when I’m feeding them, she comes up and I give her a piece. Her she is running in the wheel:
Last, but not least, there’s RC. RC is the most shy of them all and is still kind off suspicious against us, but, she actually allows Lev to give her hazelnuts once in a while. I think that if she’s giving a lot of time and patience she will come around and be less shy. She’s eating in the video, and looking very suspicious at what I’m doing So darn cute.
The other day I noticed that our degu Cola was eager to get out of the cage so I was nice enough to let the little cute fellow out for a bit.

Things are almost getting out of control here, Cola likes to run really fast all over me with the intent of me not being able to keep up, naive degu, I always keep up
Curiosity takes over sometimes and she can come up and smell you if she feels like it.
